Hyperacidity

Hyperacidity:-

Gastritis is an inflammation or erosion of the lining of stomach due to excess secretion of acid by the gastric glands of the stomach.
This can be correlated to Amlapitta in Ayurveda where the pitta dosha is vitiated along with Vata and impairs the Agni or the digestive fire in the Amashaya.

Causes:-

The food and lifestyle are the main causes of Amlapitta, which impairs the Pitta dosha:

  • Excessive intake of Spicy food like chilly, Cinnamon, Clove, Garlic etc.Salty, Sour, Pickles, Oily Fried Food, Fermented Food, Excessive consumption of beverages like coffee, Carbonated drinks, Alcohol, Smoking, Tobacco.
  • Irregular food habits
  • Fasting or skipping meals
  • Reduced sleep, Late night works, exposure to a constant heat source or working under sun/ fire
  • Stress, anxiety
  • Bacterial infections
  • Use of regular Pain killer medications

If left untreated, gastritis may lead to stomach ulcers and stomach bleeding. Rarely, chronic gastritis may increase risk of stomach cancer. Bloated feeling of the abdomen, sour belching (Continuous Burps), pain or discomfort in the epigastric region- upper abdomen, nausea/vomiting feeling irregular bowel movement, frequent indigestion, chest burn or throat burn, aversion to food, giddiness, tiredness are some of the common symptoms.
